Lindsay Kinlen - Head Coach

Additional Qualifications: BSc (Hons) Sports and Exercise Psychology, Level 3 personal trainer, Level 3 exercise referral
Lindsay swam competitively for six years with South Tyneside Swim Club and achieved top 10 regional rankings in the 400 and 800m freestyle events giving her valuable first-hand experience of competitive swimming and athlete development. Alongside her coaching and teaching credentials, Lindsay holds a degree in sport and exercise as well as personal trainer and exercie referral qualifications, supporting a holistic approach to swimmer performance, wellbeing and long term development.
In 2025 Lindsay was asked to serve as Head Coach for the Northumberland and Durham County Swim Camp, reflecting her expertise and reputation in developing competitive swimmers.
Amy Brown - Competition Development Squad Coach
Teaching Level: ASA Teaching Levels 2
Amy has vast knowledge and experience of teaching children swimming through her role as Teacher on our Learn To Swim programme. She is a Level 2 licensed swim teacher and holds a degree in Applied Sport and Exercise Science. Amy was a STSC swimmer and competed at a county, regional and national level.

Dot Houston - Skills Development and Skills Development + Squad Coach

Teaching swimming since 17 years of age with the local authority, Dot joined STSC originally as a parent helper. Her coaching career at STSC began helping with B Squad and subsequently D Squad, Dot doesn't quite know how, from there, she is now lead coach for the Learn To Swim programme, Skills Development and Skills Development + Squad coach and head of the STSC Junior League team.

Ken Nesworthy - Coach
Coaching Level: ASA Coach Level 4 - ASA Advanced Teacher
Ken’s involvement in competitive swimming began in 1965 as a swimmer with South Shields United Amateur Swimming Club.
Following the formation of South Tyneside Swimming Club in 1979, Ken who re-joined the team in 1985, progressed within the club staffing structure to become Head Swimming Teacher in 1987, developing many young swimmers through the Learn To Swim and Pre Competition groups who progressed to the STMBC Council Funded Competitive swimming Squads lead at the time by the successful Head Coach Paddy Hayes.
Following the retirement of Paddy Hayes in 1990, Ken was appointed the position as Head Coach responsible for all teaching and coaching development within the Club.
Ken returned to South Tyneside Swim Club 2025 after supporting a number of clubs in various roles across the region for a number of years.

Vic Brotherton - Assistant Coach

Vic is a dedicated and experienced swimming coach who's journey in the sport began as a swimmer at STSC from 1990 to 1994. After stepping away from the sport she later returned to the poolside after starting a family, firstly with her daughter Chloe when she was four and half years old, rekindling her passion for the sport. Progressing from a poolside helper to achieving both level 1 and 2 teaching qualifications, she has developed into a knowledgeable and committed assistant coach. With a deep understanding of South Tyneside Swimming Club's philosophy, Vic combines her first hand experience as both an athlete and a parent to support the development of swimmers, placing equal importance on the performance, wellbeing and care.
